Abstract


This study aims to determine the barriers to verbal communication of Inpres Tunrung Ganrang Elementary School students and to find out the causes of the student's bilingualism in SD Inpres Tunrung Ganrang. This study uses a qualitative approach with a scientific approach, namely the science of communication with an emphasis on interpersonal communication and verbal communication. Data collection is done by interviews, observation and documentation.

          The results showed that (1) the Verbal Communication Barriers of Elementary Inpres Tunrung Ganrang Elementary School students, namely intelligence barriers and language barriers in the form of lack of vocabulary (2) Factors Causing Student Awareness in SD Inpres Tunrung Ganrang namely local regulations in Jeneponto Regency about local content must be in the form of subjects Makassar language is given to students from class I to class VI elementary school, family factors that make regional language a daily language, and bilingual factors where there is the use of local or regional languages both from the sender (teacher) and recipient of the message (students )

          The implications of this research are that the school is expected to continue to strive to further develop communication skills in students, especially in the school environment. Increased cooperation between teachers and parents of students in developing students' vocabulary mastery in improving oral communication skills when using Indonesian.
