I am sure that unless you were born under a Essential M rock, you know that it is critical to eat your fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes are something that we need to greatly increase our consumption. We normally think of fresh as being the best. However, this is one situation when fresh is not the best. Tomatoes have high levels of lycopene. Research has shown that lycopene is a tremendous cancer fighter and prevents heart disease.Research has also shown that lycopene is much more prevalent in tomatoes that are cooked or processed. The main reason is that lycopene is contained in the cell walls. When heat is added, the cell walls are broken down which releases the lycopene making it more absorbable by our bodies.That means that although it is still good to consume fresh tomatoes, it is even better to consume canned tomatoes, jarred salsa, spaghetti sauce, and even ketchup as our main sources of tomatoes. It is important to eat tomatoes for the very fact that studies have shown that men that eat up to 10 servings of tomatoes per week greatly reduce their risk of prostate cancer. It has also been shown to reduce the risk of colon, stomach, cervix, skin, and breast cancers.It is important that you include sources of lycopene in your food intake program, because it is not made by our bodies naturally. Although tomatoes have large amounts of lycopene, it can also be found in any fruit or vegetable that is red or pink in color such as pink grapefruit, watermelon, and guava. The deeper the color the better it is for your body.Continue to find innovative recipes to include the red fruits and vegetables in your food intake program and greatly decrease your risk for many of the cancers mentioned earlier.
