Jenis dan Fungsi Tindak Tutur Direktif pada Film from The Ashes

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of directive speech acts and analyze the functions of directive speech acts performed by the character Afaf, a teacher in the film From the Ashes. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. The research data, consisting of utterances containing directive speech acts, were obtained through the “listen and record” technique, which involved repeatedly watching the film, transcribing the dialogue, and then identifying utterances containing directive illocutionary force. Data analysis was conducted using the pragmatic correspondence method, referencing Prayitno’s theory of directive speech acts, as well as contextual analysis using Dell Hymnes’ SPEAKING method. The results of the study indicate that directive speech acts in the film From the Ashes are realized in several forms, namely commanding, requesting, advising, prohibiting, and criticizing, with the commanding form being the most dominant. The functions of directive speech acts identified include commanding, pleading, sarcastically remarking, reprimanding, advising, prohibiting, and instructing. The findings of this study indicate that directive speech acts in the film From the Ashes not only serve as a means of communication to guide the actions of the addressee but also represent the values of discipline, responsibility, compassion, and courage in facing various situations.
