Abstract

The research discusses the problem of the shape of the earth that is currently developing, namely the debate between adherents of the spherical Earth theory and adherents of the flat Earth theory. In addition to using the Qur'an and hadith arguments to strengthen the argument, the exegetes also provide their interpretations through sharia texts to prove the scientific nature of the spherical Earth. The research method used is qualitative descriptive (Library Research) which describes systematically, normatively, and accurately the object that is the main problem, and uses a Scientific-cum-doctriner approach by combining scientific theories from natural sciences (astronomy) without forgetting the doctrinal aspects contained in Islamic studies (fiqh). The results of this study indicate that according to the consensus of the exegetes have agreed that the earth is spherical, of course this theory is based on scientific and intellectual evidence. Exegetes who hold this opinion are the majority of modern interpreters.
