IMPLEMENTATION OF ACADEMIC MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM IN IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AT POLITEKNIK PARIWISATA MAKASSAR

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of an Academic Management Information System (MIS) in improving educational services at Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar, with a particular focus on the Computer-Based Test (CBT) feature integrated into the Siakad Cloud platform. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with academic administrators, lecturers, and students, complemented by field observations and institutional document analysis. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the implementation of the Academic MIS was carried out through three interrelated phases: planning, implementation, and evaluation. During the planning phase, the institution established strategic policies, allocated budgets, developed technological infrastructure, and formed a management team. The implementation phase involved three categories of users—administrators, lecturers, and students—each performing specific roles to ensure the effective execution of computer-based examinations. The evaluation results indicate that the implementation of CBT has significantly improved examination efficiency, assessment transparency, and student satisfaction with academic services. Supporting factors include stable network infrastructure, strong leadership commitment, and users' digital literacy, while inhibiting factors consist of occasional network disruptions and resistance among some users to system changes. Therefore, the implementation of the Academic MIS through the CBT system at Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar serves as a strategic instrument for enhancing the quality, accountability, and transparency of vocational education services.
