The Ben Ghiben tradition is one of the cultures preserved in Madurese marriages, especially in Pasar Hamlet, Lombok Kulon Village. The practice of this tradition requires the prospective husband to bring household equipment to the prospective wife's house as a symbol of readiness in building a household. However, in its development, this tradition is not the main factor that encourages interest in marriage, especially among the younger generation. The decision to marry is more influenced by mental readiness, responsibility, and family factors. This study uses a qualitative method with a sociological and normative approach to analyze the impact of this tradition from a social perspective and Islamic law. The results show that this tradition is included in the category of 'Urf which is allowed as long as it does not contradict the principles of Sharia. This tradition has a positive impact in the form of cultural preservation, strengthening social relations, and relieving new couples in household preparation. And the negative impacts include financial burden for the groom-to-be and social pressure for those who do not carry it out. Therefore, it is recommended that the implementation of this tradition be more flexible, so as not to burden the groom-to-be economically. Socialization is also needed so that the younger generation better understands the cultural values contained in this tradition, as well as the role of religious leaders in maintaining a balance between tradition and the provisions of Islamic law.
M.
