Abstract

This research examines the representation of black dandyism in the Met Gala 2025 as a construction of global anti-racism solidarity within a transnational space. This research aims to analyze the role of black dandyism in the Met Gala 2025 in forming a discourse of global anti-racism solidarity. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s work in Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, this study positions black dandyism beyond mere fashion and aesthetic phenomena, focusing instead on the deep construction of meaning within the sociopolitical realm. By positioning the Met Gala as an international event that serves as a site of meaning production, identity construction, and global political articulation, this research employs Critical Theory, particularly Andrew Linklater’s concepts of universalizable sympathy and solidarity and suffering. The study applies Entman’s framing analysis to international media coverage outside the United States and digital content related to the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Through this framework, the research explores how such symbolic representations activate cross-border empathy and build the foundation for transnational solidarity in the contemporary era.
