Abstract

The development of ilm al-hadith has come under scrutiny, especially with regard to the study of hadith criticism (ilm al-dirāyah) because it seems to have led to a tendency towards the formulation of rigid rules similar to mathematical calculations. The aims of this article is to look at how this event has led to a more dynamic development in the study of hadith. This article is a qualitative research by basing data on sources related to miḥnah and its relationship with the science of hadith. This paper shows that the science of hadith is a scientific discourse that cannot be viewed as a standardized and rigid science in the application of its rules because basically the application of the science of hadith which includes the transmission and criticism of hadith is a dynamic human scientific activity, as seen in the period of miḥnah and after.
