This study aims to analyze the relevance of hadiths on procreation to the phenomenon of childfree through the ma’nā-cum-maghzā approach. This research employs a qualitative library research method. The primary data consist of the hadith encouraging marriage to al-wadūd al-walūd women, which are analyzed through the identification of their historical meaning (ma’nā) and significance (maghzā). The findings reveal that the historical meaning of the hadith is closely related to the need for regeneration, the strengthening of the Muslim community, and the continuity of religious value transmission in early Islamic society. Furthermore, the primary significance of the hadith does not merely lie in increasing the population quantitatively but rather in ensuring generational continuity through families characterized by affection, responsibility, and quality upbringing. The study also demonstrates that the childfree phenomenon emerges from social transformations influenced by economic considerations, mental health concerns, career orientation, and changing family values in modern society. Therefore, hadiths on procreation should not be understood solely through a literal perspective but rather through their substantive objectives. This study concludes that the ma’nā-cum-maghzā approach facilitates a constructive dialogue between hadith texts and contemporary social realities, resulting in a more contextual understanding of the relationship between reproduction, family quality, and social welfare within modern Muslim communities.
