Publication Ethics
This statement outlines the ethical behavior expected from all parties involved in the publishing process of articles in Jurnal INSTEK (Informatics, Science, and Technology), including authors, editors, peer-reviewers, and the publisher (Program Studi Teknik Informatika, Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi, UIN Alauddin Makassar). This statement is based on the COPE (Commitee on Publication Ethics) and Peraturan Kepala LIPI Nomor 5 Tahun 2014.
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
Publishing an article in a peer-reviewed journal is a critical building block in developing a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It directly reflects the quality of the authors’ work and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed articles sustain and embody the scientific method. Therefore, it is essential to agree on standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in publishing: authors, journal editors, peer-reviewers, publishers, and sponsoring societies or journals.
Program Studi Teknik Informatika, Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi, UIN Alauddin Makassar, as the publisher of Jurnal INSTEK, undertakes its responsibilities of guardianship over all stages of publishing with great seriousness and recognizes its ethical obligations. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprints, or other commercial revenues do not influence editorial decisions. Additionally, Program Studi Teknik Informatika, together with the Editorial Board, will assist in communicating with other journals and publishers when this is useful and necessary.
Publication Decisions
The editor of Jurnal INSTEK is responsible for deciding which manuscripts submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its relevance to researchers and readers must guide such decisions. The editor may be influenced by the journal’s editorial board policies and constrained by legal requirements, such as those regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editor may also discuss with other editors or reviewers in reaching a final decision.
Fair Play
At all times, an editor must evaluate manuscripts based on their intellectual content, without discriminating on grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
Confidentiality
The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by the editor in his or her own research without the express written consent of the author.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers assist the editor in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts by providing constructive feedback. - Promptness
Any selected reviewer who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript, or knows that a timely review will be impossible, should notify the editor promptly and withdraw from the review process. - Confidentiality
Every manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. It must not be shown to or discussed with others except with permission from the editor. - Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is not permitted. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments. - Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify any relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. Reviewers must also alert the editor if they find any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any published paper they are aware of. - Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must remain confidential and not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the papers.
Responsibilities of Authors
- Reporting Standards
Authors of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be presented accurately. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable. - Data Access and Retention
Authors may be asked to provide the raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to make such data publicly available (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if feasible. Authors should also retain such data for a reasonable period after publication. - Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original, and if they have used the work and/or words of others, it must be appropriately cited or quoted. - Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication concurrently. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable. - Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have influenced the nature of the reported work. - Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Anyone who has participated in certain substantive aspects of the research should be acknowledged or listed as a contributor. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and agreed to its submission for publication. - Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects
If the research involves chemicals, procedures, or equipment that have any unusual hazards, the author must clearly identify these in the manuscript. If the work involves the use of human or animal subjects, the author must ensure that all procedures comply with relevant laws and institutional guidelines and that the appropriate institutional committees have approved them. The manuscript should include a statement that the necessary ethics approval was obtained. - Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
All authors should disclose any financial or other significant conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the results or their interpretation. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed. - Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.
