Abstract
This study examines the implementation of the ujrah system in Sharia-based Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending platforms as a strategy to avoid riba (usury) practices in Indonesia. As the Islamic financial technology (fintech) sector continues to grow, the ujrah mechanism based on the wakalah bi al-ujrah contract serves as a fundamental framework that allows fund providers to receive compensation in accordance with Sharia principles, representing a fair return for the services they render. This research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to explain how ujrah operates within Sharia P2P lending, drawing upon academic literature and relevant regulations, such as the Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) Number 10/POJK.05/2022. However, the limited public understanding of the Sharia P2P lending concept poses a challenge to its broader adoption. Therefore, this study analyzes how ujrah can strengthen Sharia fintech innovation to prevent riba while simultaneously increasing public awareness through education on halal financing. The ujrah system not only supports the expansion of access to Sharia-compliant financial services but also promotes financial inclusion aligned with the objectives of maqashid sharia. Thus, ujrah emerges as an effective solution to eliminate riba-based transactions, reinforce the Islamic financial ecosystem, and foster sustainable financial literacy in Indonesia.
