Abstract
Indonesia affirms its commitment as a state governed by law in environmental management through Article 33 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution. However, its implementation still faces serious challenges, including excessive exploitation, ecosystem degradation, and weak law enforcement, which create a gap between constitutional ideals and administrative realities. Consequently, environmental law reform has become an urgent necessity, particularly in relation to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study employs a qualitative method by conducting library research, analyzing environmental regulations, academic literature, and policies related to the SDGs. The findings indicate that environmental law reform plays a strategic role in supporting the achievement of the SDGs. Reform is required to strengthen legislation, improve institutional integrity, and encourage public participation as well as the role of NGOs in monitoring and advocacy. This article asserts that Indonesia’s success in achieving the 2030 SDGs depends on the transformation of environmental law into a more adaptive framework that upholds ecological justice and balances development with environmental sustainability.
