Abstract

Older adults are an age group that experiences various changes in physical, psychological, social, and economic aspects as part of the aging process. These changes may lead to various challenges, such as declining health conditions, reduced ability to carry out daily activities, limited access to essential services, and feelings of loneliness due to decreased social interaction. In this context, social workers play an important role in providing protection and support to older adults so that they can continue to live decent and prosperous lives. This article aims to discuss the role of social workers in protecting older adults through assistance, counseling, advocacy, and facilitating their access to various social and health services. The article was written using a literature review method by examining various references related to the welfare of older adults and social work practice. The findings indicate that social workers serve as facilitators, mediators, advocates, and companions who help older adults meet their daily needs and overcome the challenges they face. Through these roles, social workers contribute to improving the quality of life of older adults, enabling them to live more independently, safely, and with dignity. Therefore, strengthening the role of social workers should continue through enhancing professional capacity and implementing policies that are more supportive of the welfare of older adults.
