This study investigates the influence of the Friday Literacy Program on enhancing students’ reading interest within the Library and Islamic Information Science Department at UIN Datokarama Palu. Employing a mixed-methods approach with an embedded concurrent design, quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-reading interest Likert-scale questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and documentation. The quantitative findings indicate a significant increase in students’ reading interest following their participation in the program. Qualitative evidence supports this improvement, revealing that active participants experienced broader knowledge, stronger analytical abilities, and increased confidence when presenting book reviews. Enabling factors included a supportive learning environment, integration of literacy activities with course assignments, and strong encouragement from program organizers. In contrast, barriers mainly stemmed from external conditions such as distance, transportation limitations, and family responsibilities. Overall, the study concludes that the Friday Literacy Program effectively fosters a sustainable reading culture and strengthens academic competencies. The findings also highlight the need for more inclusive literacy strategies to ensure equal opportunities for all students to participate.
