Abstract

This study examines the implementation of religious tolerance between Muslims and Catholics in Tana Toraja Regency from the perspective of siyasah syar’iyyah. The study aims to analyze the forms of tolerance practiced within the community, examine their compatibility with the principles of siyasah syar’iyyah, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in maintaining interreligious harmony. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with religious and community leaders, and analysis of local government policy documents. Data validity was examined using source and methodological triangulation. The findings indicate that tolerance between Muslims and Catholics in Tana Toraja is manifested through the shared use of religious facilities under certain circumstances, collaboration in social and community activities, and interfaith dialogue and communication. These practices are consistent with the principles of siyasah syar’iyyah, particularly the promotion of public welfare, justice, protection of rights, and social harmony. Supporting factors include community commitment, the role of religious leaders, local wisdom, and inclusive local government policies. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include social prejudice and potential conflicts of interest.
