Makassar, a coastal city with a strong maritime history, has great potential to develop an education and recreation center focused on maritime culture. This study tries to build a Maritime Transportation Museum using an Iconic Architecture approach. The phinisi ship will be used as a symbol of Bugis-Makassar cultural identity. To create a contextual and functional museum design, research methods include field surveys, site analysis, and literature studies. To create a building character that is easily recognized and represents local maritime values, a ship-shape transformation was applied to the building mass, facade, and landscape elements. The design results show that the iconic approach can make the museum a place for education, entertainment, and the preservation of maritime culture. In addition, this approach can strengthen the image of the Makassar coastal region as a leading tourist destination.
