Abstract

Animal health is an important factor in the sustainability of dairy farming because diseases can impair productivity and increase the risk of economic losses. This study aimed to identify diseases found and describe their treatment in a dairy cattle farm in Enrekang District, Enrekang Regency.  A descriptive observational method with a case study approach was used. Data were collected through direct observation, discussions and interviews with relevant personnel, identification of clinical signs, documentation, and secondary data collection. Data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively based on disease type, clinical signs, husbandry conditions, and treatment measures. The observations identified three health disorders: clinical mastitis in Friesian Holstein–Limousin crossbred dairy cattle, pyometra in a female cow, and hernia in a calf. Mastitis was characterized by udder swelling and pus discharge from the udder and teat, whereas pyometra was characterized by cloudy mucus or yellowish-white purulent discharge from the vulva. Hernia was characterized by a visible protrusion at the affected body region. Treatment was provided according to the condition of each case, consisting of antibiotic administration for mastitis and pyometra and surgical intervention for hernia. Disease control should be supported by consistent sanitation and hygiene practices in dairy cattle management.
