The use of marketplace activity techniques to improve the learning outcomes of Islamic education for eighth-grade students (SMP DDI Mangkoso)

This thesis aims to examine the implementation of the Marketplace Activity technique in improving students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education in Grade VIII at SMP DDI Mangkoso. It also seeks to identify the obstacles encountered in the implementation of the Marketplace Activity technique in improving Islamic Religious Education learning outcomes among Grade VIII students at SMP DDI Mangkoso, as well as to determine solutions to overcome these obstacles.
This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) as its research method. The research used the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model, which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted in two cycles, with the first cycle consisting of two meetings and the second cycle also consisting of two meetings. Data were collected through observation and tests. The Marketplace Activity technique was applied in Islamic Religious Education learning at SMP DDI Mangkoso, with the research subjects consisting of 9 Grade VIII students.
The results of the study indicate that in Cycle I, students’ activities and learning outcomes were still in the low category, reaching 60%, as reflected in low levels of participation, questioning skills, analytical ability, and the ability to draw conclusions from the learning material. After improvements were implemented in Cycle II, there was a significant increase in both student engagement and learning outcomes. The percentage of students achieving learning mastery in Cycle II reached 85%, exceeding the predetermined success indicator of 75%. The implementation of the Marketplace Activity technique proved to be effective in creating a more active, collaborative, and meaningful learning environment. Students not only understood the material conceptually but were also able to relate it to their daily lives. Therefore, the Marketplace Activity technique can be considered an effective alternative learning strategy for improving learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education at the junior secondary school level.
