Abstract

Climate change, which has led to rising lake water levels, flooding, and extreme weather events, has significantly affected the spatial resilience of housing in tropical lakeside settlements, such as Kelurahan Laelo in Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi, located along the shores of Lake Tempe. This area is highly vulnerable to hydrological fluctuations influenced by climate change. Using a descriptive qualitative approach involving interviews, questionnaires, observation, and spatial transects, this study emphasizes the dynamic interaction between space, local culture, and ecological cycles. The findings identify five categories of space within the hierarchy of spatial resilience: symbolic space, which is currently the most vulnerable; flexible domestic space; communal space grounded in social solidarity; adaptive transitional space; and strategic vertical space. This research proposes a spatial resilience framework for stilt houses in tropical lake environments, integrating structural, social, and ecological elements in strengthening disaster resilience.
