This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of nazhir performance and the fulfillment of nazhir responsibilities in managing waqf assets within the jurisdiction of the Office of Religious Affairs of Pattallassang District, Takalar Regency. This research employs a juridical-empirical method with a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews with two key informants, namely a counselor at the Office of Religious Affairs of Pattallassang District and a nazhir, as well as documentation of waqf land records from 2021-2022. The results show that the social function of waqf has been maintained. The two documented waqf land parcels in Bajeng and Maradekaya Villages were used for the construction and operation of Islamic boarding schools, with individual wakifs and individual nazhirs. However, management effectiveness remains suboptimal in terms of asset legality and administration, reporting, and competency development. The analyzed documentation did not include the certificate numbers or legal status of the two properties, while administrative records and nazhir reporting were not maintained consistently. These findings indicate a gap between the social functioning of waqf assets and the fulfillment of the nazhir’s legal and administrative responsibilities. The study concludes that nazhir performance has fulfilled part of its substantive responsibilities but requires strengthening through asset-legalization verification, competency development, continuous training, simple and regular reporting, and institutional coordination.
