This study aims to analyze Ibn Khaldun’s historiographical thought in al-Muqaddimah and its relevance to modern historiography. The research is motivated by the dominant tendency to regard scientific historiography as an exclusive product of Western modernity, thereby marginalizing contributions from Islamic intellectual traditions. This study employs a qualitative library research method with an analytical-philosophical and comparative approach to al-Muqaddimah and modern historiographical literature. Data are examined through content analysis and conceptual synthesis to identify comparable methodological and epistemological principles. The findings demonstrate that Ibn Khaldun formulated history as a critical science grounded in source verification, rational inquiry, and causal analysis. The concepts of ‘asabiyyah and ‘ilm al-‘umran emphasize social structures and material conditions as key factors in historical dynamics, closely aligning with social and interdisciplinary approaches in modern historiography. The discussion further reveals reflective similarities between Ibn Khaldun and modern historians regarding authorial subjectivity and methodological objectivity. The study concludes that Ibn Khaldun’s thought is methodologically and epistemologically relevant to modern historiography and significantly contributes to a more inclusive global historiographical discourse. This research encourages further cross-traditional historiographical studies and future inquiries into the application of Ibn Khaldun’s concepts in contemporary historical and social analysis.
