Abstract

Traditional markets play an important role in supporting the economic activities of the community, but their physical condition and management often experience various problems, such as a lack of natural ventilation, limited open space, unorganized circulation, and inadequate public facilities. Lambocca Market in Bantaeng Regency is one of the markets facing these issues, so improvements are needed through a more sustainable design approach and oriented towards user comfort. This study aims to redesign Lambocca Market by applying the concept of biophilic architecture to improve the market environment and create a healthier, friendlier, and more attractive spatial experience for visitors and traders. The methods used include analysis of existing site conditions and space requirements, and the application of biophilic principles across form, building mass, outdoor layout, and material selection. The results of the study indicate that the integration of biophilic elements, such as vegetation, natural lighting and ventilation, the presence of water, and architectural forms that respond to the environment, can create a more comfortable, aesthetic, and functional market. This redesign also improves the quality of social interactions and strengthens local identity, giving Lambocca Market the potential to become a more sustainable economic and public space for the community.
