Abstract

Early childhood guidance and counseling has predominantly been practiced within a technical-psychological framework that is reactive and problem-oriented, limiting its role in early character formation. This article aims to reconstruct early childhood guidance and counseling based on spiritual values and local wisdom as a preventive approach to character education. The study adopts a qualitative approach using a document analysis design, examining recent academic literature, particularly Scopus- and SINTA-indexed journal articles and relevant conceptual works. The findings indicate that spiritual values and local wisdom possess strong normative potential to serve as foundational elements in early childhood guidance and counseling, yet they remain insufficiently integrated into existing models. The proposed reconstruction positions guidance and counseling as a preventive and value-oriented process that supports emotional regulation, moral awareness, and prosocial behavior in young children. Theoretically, this study contributes to the expansion of early childhood counseling scholarship toward a more holistic and contextual paradigm. Practically, the findings offer a strategic framework for strengthening early childhood guidance and counseling services that align with religious and multicultural contexts, thereby supporting sustainable character education from an early age.
