Abstract

Ruqyah syar’iyah is an Islamic spiritual healing practice grounded in Qur’anic verses and prophetic supplications and is increasingly used as a complementary therapy within Muslim communities. In Indonesia, this practice is not only maintained as a religious tradition but has also been developed into more structured therapeutic models. Nevertheless, academic discussions on its therapeutic mechanisms and its integration into holistic health care remain limited. This article examines the practice of ruqyah syar’iyah at the Rehab Hati Foundation in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, with the aim of understanding its role in supporting spiritual and psychological well-being. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with practitioners, patients, and foundation administrators, complemented by participant observation and document analysis. The findings indicate that ruqyah addresses spiritual disturbances while also generating meaningful psychotherapeutic effects, including emotional stability, strengthened faith, improved coping capacity, and renewed optimism. These findings highlight the potential of ruqyah syar’iyah to be integrated into holistic health frameworks that connect religious, psychological, and social dimensions.
