Authorship Criteria

Al-Risalah: Jurnal Ilmu Syariah dan Hukum is committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, integrity, and accountability in scholarly publishing. The journal adopts internationally recognized authorship principles to ensure that authorship accurately reflects each individual's substantive intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript. All authors submitting manuscripts to the journal must comply with the following authorship criteria and ethical requirements.

1. Core Authorship Criteria

To qualify for authorship, an individual must satisfy all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.

  2. Drafting or Critical Revision: Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Approve the final version of the manuscript before submission or publication.

  4. Accountability: Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, or validity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors. However, their contributions may be appropriately acknowledged in the acknowledgements section, subject to their consent.

2. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

The journal prohibits unethical authorship practices, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Guest or Gift Authorship: Listing individuals who have not made substantial intellectual contributions to the research, including individuals added because of their academic position, seniority, institutional affiliation, or personal relationships.

  2. Ghost Authorship: Excluding individuals who have made substantial contributions and meet the journal's authorship criteria, particularly when their contributions involve research design, data analysis, interpretation, or manuscript preparation.

  3. Honorary Authorship: Granting authorship as a courtesy or in exchange for professional favors without fulfilling all authorship criteria.

  4. Misrepresentation of Contributions: Providing inaccurate or misleading information about the contributions of individual authors or concealing the involvement of individuals who made significant contributions.

  5. Unapproved Changes in Authorship: Adding, removing, or rearranging authors after submission without the agreement of all affected authors and notification to, and approval by, the journal's editorial office.

3. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools and large language models (LLMs), including ChatGPT, Grammarly, and similar applications, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity of the research, provide formal consent to publication, or be held accountable for the published work.

Authors may use AI-assisted tools for purposes such as language editing, grammar correction, improving readability, translation, or supporting data analysis, provided that such use complies with the journal's policies and applicable research ethics standards.

Any substantive use of AI that contributes to the development of the manuscript, research methodology, data analysis, interpretation, or generation of research content must be transparently disclosed in the appropriate section of the manuscript. Routine spelling, grammar, and reference-formatting assistance may be exempt from disclosure where permitted by the journal's specific AI policy.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of all content submitted for publication, including material produced or modified with AI assistance. AI-generated references, quotations, data, and factual claims must be independently verified by the authors.

4. Author Contributions and Corresponding Author Responsibilities

All authors must clearly identify their individual contributions to the manuscript using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), where applicable. Contributions may include conceptualization, methodology, data curation, formal analysis, investigation, writing – original draft, writing – review and editing, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition.

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the editorial office, ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria, obtaining approval of the final manuscript from all authors, providing accurate author information, and ensuring that any required declarations and disclosures are submitted.

The corresponding author must also confirm that all authors have agreed to the order of authorship and accept responsibility for their respective contributions.

5. Acknowledgements and Non-Author Contributions

Individuals who contribute to a manuscript but do not meet all four authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately rather than listed as authors. Such contributions may include administrative assistance, technical support, language editing, proofreading, or other forms of assistance that do not constitute qualifying intellectual contributions.

Authors must obtain permission from individuals named in the acknowledgements section before including their names.

6. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be accompanied by a written explanation and the explicit agreement of all affected authors, including those being added or removed. The corresponding author must submit the request to the editorial office for review and approval before any changes are implemented.

The journal reserves the right to investigate suspected authorship violations and take appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies and applicable guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

7. Editorial Review and Ethical Compliance

Al-Risalah: Jurnal Ilmu Syariah dan Hukum reserves the right to request clarification or supporting documentation regarding authorship, individual contributions, and the use of AI-assisted tools whenever necessary.

Suspected violations, including guest authorship, ghost authorship, fabricated contribution statements, or undisclosed AI use where disclosure is required, may result in editorial action. Depending on the circumstances, such action may include requesting clarification, requiring corrective revisions, suspending the review process, rejecting the manuscript, or taking post-publication action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and correction policies.

By submitting a manuscript to Al-Risalah: Jurnal Ilmu Syariah dan Hukum, all authors confirm that the authorship information is accurate, that all listed authors meet the stated criteria, and that they accept responsibility for the integrity of the submitted work.
