The erang-erang tradition in the community of Bambarimi Village, Donggala Regency, continues to be consistently practiced despite the absence of explicit regulation in Islamic law. This makes it an interesting subject to examine through the principle of al-‘ādah muḥakkamah in Islamic jurisprudence. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with an empirical legal approach through observation, interviews, and documentation, which are analyzed qualitatively. The findings indicate that the tradition reflects the implementation of the principle of al-‘ādah muḥakkamah within the customary marriage practices of the Bugis community. This is characterized by its continuous transmission across generations, broad social acceptance, non-contradiction with Islamic law, and conformity with local customary provisions. In addition, there is flexibility in its technical implementation based on mutual agreement and the capacity of the families involved. Thus, the principle of al-‘ādah muḥakkamah can function operationally in assessing customary practices that are not explicitly regulated in the textual sources (naṣṣ), while also strengthening Islamic legal analysis grounded in the social realities of local communities.
