Abstract

Mattiro Deceng Village holds ethnobiological knowledge passed down through generations, yet its regeneration process has not been widely studied systematically. This study aims to inventory the local biodiversity utilized by the community, analyze the intergenerational transmission pattern of this knowledge and identify the factors influencing it. This study used a descriptive exploratory approach with purposive and snowball sampling techniques involving 20  informants. Data were collected through semi sstructured interviews and analyzed using the Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) and a knowledge transmission index. The results identified 27 plant species and one ritual plant group utilized for traditional medicine and customary ceremonies. Only 26,9% of the species knowledge held by the older generation was also mastered by the younger generation with 19 species at risk of losing their transmission. Species assiciated with customary rituals and popular health trends persisted better than knowledge of remedies specific to elderly related ailments. These findings are interpreted within the Islamic framework of human stewardship and the obligation to pass on beneficial knowledge, forming the basis for recommendations on documentation and strengthening the transmission of local ethnobiological knowledge.
