Abstract

The use of lignocellulose biomass as a renewable energy source continues to be developed to reduce the dependence of fossil fuels, one of which is through processing cashew leaf waste into biobriquettes. In this study, chasew leaf and tapioca starch adhesives- based biobriquette were made with the aim to determining the physical and chemical properties of biobriquettes. The composition variations of cashew leaves and tapioca flour used were A (90 : 10)gr, B (85 : 15) )gr, and C (80 : 20)gr, which is then processed using a blender to refine the sample, sifting the sample with a particle size of 40 mesh, weighing the sample with a predetermined composition, making biobriquettes by mixing cashew leaf with tapioca flour as an adhesive, printing with a printer, and drying the biobriquettes under the sun to reduce the water content and facilitate the burning process. The last, analyzing the water and ash content, calorific value, density, and flame test. Water content obtained with the best quality in the composition of sample A, which is equal to 1%. Whereas, the ash content obtained on the composition of the B sample is equal to 2%. Furthermore, sample C was known to have the best density, calorific and flame test value, namely 0.7303 gr/cm3 3,866.1887 cal/gr, and 8 minutes, respectively. Generally, the test results for water content, ash content, density, and flame test complied with SNI standards for all sample compositions variations, except for the calorific value test. This is presumably because the initial calorific value of cashew leaves is still below standard.
