Background: Research on information security within Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAMs) sector remains limited. Despite growing interest in digital transformation and cultural heritage preservation, no systematic effort has been made to map the scientific landscape of this field.
Purpose: The study identifies global research trends, prolific contributors, and thematic patterns in information security within the GLAM context over the past three decades, offering insights into its intellectual structure and directions for further research.
Methods: A bibliometric approach was employed using data from the Scopus database (1990–2024). Quantitative analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to examine publication output, authorship, institutional affiliations, countries, funding agencies, and keyword co-occurrence networks.
Findings: The analysis identified 140 relevant publications. Chern Li Liew from Victoria University of Wellington was the most prolific author, and Australia was the leading contributing country, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. Information security in GLAM institutions remains an emerging and underdeveloped research area.
Originality/Value: The study highlights the need for broader collaboration and theory development to address the impact of information loss on digital preservation and data security. Its insights can guide future research and strengthen interdisciplinary engagement in this area.
