PUBLICATION ETHICS
Code of Ethics for Journal Publications
Scientific publication of an article is the result of the thought work of a person or group of people, after going through a scientific review disseminated in the form of scientific papers, including in the form of journals, books, proceedings, research reports, papers, and scientific posters. This scientific publication is a direct reflection of the quality of the author's scientific writing and the institution in which the author works. It is therefore important to agree on ethical standards of conduct that are expected for all parties involved in the publishing act: authors, editors or editors of journals, peer reviewers, publishers, and the public.
Code of Ethics for Editors
The editors of the MSA Journal (Mathematics and Statistics and their Applications) determine the publication process and integrate the functions of authors, peer reviewers, and journal managers to publish papers based on scientific and ethical principles. Editors respond to criticism, suggestions, and objections from authors honestly and transparently. The editorial task is also to maintain the independence of the journal from considerations of pure commercialization and strive for the journal to remain a major class journal in its field. Editors work based on the following principles and ethical standards.
- Responsible for the choice of journal content and striving for continuous improvement of the quality of publications.
- Obliged to create a writing guide for the author and his template.
- Critically assess that the paper has been free from ethical violations, honest and objective, independent, assessing each on quality regardless of nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the author, and free from prejudice in making decisions including in choosing a peer reviewer.
- Ensure that the process of reviewing papers is carried out thoroughly, transparently, objectively, and fairly.
- Guarantee that all published papers have gone through a review process by qualified bestari partners.
- Guarantee the eligibility of the selected peer-review partners under their competencies. The selected bestari partner members are those who can consider the written work and have no conflict of interest.
- Reject written works without going through the review process if they do not fit the scope of the journal or are of low quality, but not because of the background of the author or its affiliated institutions.
- Strive to ensure that the published research complies with the guidelines of the LIPI-issued code of ethics for scientific publications and relevant international guidelines.
- Provides a fill-in form for the author to sign about the ethics statement and copyright agreement.
Code of Ethics for Peer-Reviews Partners
A bestari partner is someone who helps editors critically examine the substance of scientific papers under their field of expertise so that peer-review partners play a very important role in the scientific publication process. Mitra bestari works based on the following principles and ethical standards.
- It is required to be honest, objective, unbiased, independent, and only side with scientific truth.
- Must be critical in assessing the content of a written work under their field of expertise, be open about new things, keep confidential about what is being assessed, do not take personal advantage of the written work being assessed, and have the spirit to improve the written work he has studied.
- Has the task of assisting editors in determining which papers can be published and helping authors to improve the quality of their written works.
- It is required to always uphold the basic principles and scientific analysis in carrying out the process of studying a written work.
- The results of the study are presented honestly, objectively, and supported by clear arguments. Some possible recommendations for review results: (i) accepted without improvement or accepted with minor improvements (after improvement by the author, no need to return to the bestari partner), (ii) accepted with improvement (after improvement by the author, return to the bestari partner for review), (iii) rejected and advised to be published elsewhere as appropriate, (iv) rejected and encouraged not to be published anywhere because the work is scientifically defective or impactful detrimental to the user/community.
- Do not use the papers reviewed for personal or third-party purposes. The use of part of the content of the paper under study has received the author's permission. The paper under review should not be disseminated.
Code of Ethics for Authors
An author in a scientific journal is someone who pours the results of his thoughts and/or research and development in the form of a paper that has met the requirements of scientific and ethical rules. Research is aimed at acquiring new knowledge, adding to scientific treasures beyond the limits of known knowledge, or producing scientific methods of solving the problem at hand. The result of this process is the author's contribution as an individual in contributing science. Authors work based on the requirements of scientific rules and ethical standards as follows.
- Make a statement that the written work submitted for publication is original, has never been published anywhere in any language, and is not in the process of being submitted to another publisher. If there is an error in the written work, the author immediately notifies the editor or publisher.
- Ensure that the names listed as authors include the order in which they are contributed and approved by all members. If there is a substitution, subtraction, or addition of the author's name, it is first agreed upon by the other author. The author ensures that all parties who contribute non-substantively to the paper will be given a thank you.
- Collectively responsible for the work and content of articles including methods, analysis, calculations and details.
- Inform the editor if he will withdraw his written work.
- Inform editors about written works that are part of a gradual, multidisciplinary and different-perspective research.
- When requested, the author prepares evidence that the research carried out has met the requirements of research ethics, including providing field notes or research log books. The author responds adequately if there are comments or responses after the paper has been published.
- Not engaging in plagiarism or self-plagiarism
