Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
This policy governs the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools in manuscripts submitted to Komodifikasi: Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi, and in the editorial and review process. It follows the COPE position statement on authorship and AI tools.
For authors
- AI tools cannot be listed as authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work, declare conflicts of interest, or manage copyright.
- Authors may use AI tools only to improve the readability and language of the manuscript (e.g., grammar checking, paraphrasing, translation) or for technical tasks such as transcription, under human supervision and with careful verification. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content.
- Generative AI must not be used to produce the substantive content of the manuscript (arguments, analysis, findings, or conclusions), to fabricate data or references, or to generate or alter images and figures presenting research data.
- Any use of AI tools must be disclosed in a Declaration on the Use of Generative AI at the end of the manuscript, naming the tool and describing how it was used. If no AI tools were used, authors state so explicitly.
- Manuscripts are screened with Turnitin's AI-writing detection; an indication of 20% or more may lead to a request for clarification, revision, or rejection.
For editors and reviewers
- Submitted manuscripts are confidential. Editors and reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any part of them to generative AI tools, and must not use AI tools to write their review reports or editorial decisions.
This policy will be reviewed periodically as the technology and international guidelines evolve.
