Publication Ethics

Komodifikasi: Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics at every stage of the publishing process. This statement is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, and applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

Duties of Editors

  • Publication decisions. The Editor in Chief is responsible for deciding which manuscripts are published, guided by the validation of the work, its importance to researchers and readers, the journal's policies, and legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
  • Fair play. Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
  • Confidentiality. Editors do not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest. Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript are not used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author. Editors recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
  • Integrity of the record. Editors take reasonable steps to investigate alleged misconduct and, where necessary, publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies.
  • Journal metrics. Editors do not attempt to influence the journal's ranking by artificially increasing any metric, including coercive citation.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Contribution to editorial decisions. Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve their manuscript.
  • Promptness. Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to review promptly notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
  • Confidentiality. Manuscripts received for review are treated as confidential documents and must not be shared, discussed, or uploaded to any third-party tool, including generative AI services.
  • Objectivity. Reviews are conducted objectively with clear, supporting arguments; personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
  • Acknowledgement of sources. Reviewers identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and alert the editor to any substantial similarity with other published work.
  • Conflicts of interest. Reviewers do not review manuscripts in which they have competing interests arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or institutions connected to the manuscript.

Duties of Authors

  • Reporting standards. Authors present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior.
  • Data access and retention. Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.
  • Originality and plagiarism. Authors ensure that their work is entirely original and that the work and words of others are appropriately cited or quoted.
  • Multiple or concurrent publication. Authors do not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently, nor publish essentially the same research in more than one journal.
  • Authorship. Authorship is limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study; all such contributors are listed as co-authors, and all co-authors approve the final version and its submission.
  • Disclosure. Authors disclose any financial or substantive conflicts of interest and all sources of financial support.
  • Fundamental errors. Authors who discover a significant error in their published work promptly notify the editor and cooperate to correct or retract the paper.
  • Human subjects. Research involving human participants complies with applicable ethical standards; informed consent and, where required, ethical approval are obtained and stated in the manuscript.

Duties of the Publisher

  • The Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, UIN Alauddin Makassar, as publisher, supports the editors in handling unethical publishing behavior, ensures the long-term availability and preservation of the journal's content, and safeguards editorial independence from any commercial or institutional interest.
