Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

Jurnal MSA (Matematika dan Statistika serta Aplikasinya)

1. General Policy

Jurnal MSA is committed to ensuring the long-term availability, integrity, security, and accessibility of scholarly works published in mathematics, statistics, and their applications.

As part of its scholarly publishing governance, Jurnal MSA establishes an electronic archiving and digital preservation policy to ensure that published articles, bibliographic metadata, and related publication information remain available and accessible to the academic community over time.

This policy encompasses digital archive management, data storage and backup, preservation of published content, information security, metadata traceability, and access restoration in the event of technical disruptions or changes to the journal's publishing infrastructure.

2. Objectives of Electronic Archiving

The electronic archiving and digital preservation policy of Jurnal MSA aims to:

  1. Ensure the long-term availability and accessibility of published scholarly articles.

  2. Protect the integrity and authenticity of digital publication records.

  3. Maintain the continuity of scholarly archives during technological or infrastructural changes.

  4. Minimize the risk of data loss resulting from hardware failures, system disruptions, or operational errors.

  5. Support the traceability of bibliographic information and publication histories.

  6. Preserve research findings in mathematics, statistics, and their applications as part of the scientific knowledge record.

  7. Support open-access principles and the sustainability of scholarly communication.

3. Electronic Archiving Systems

3.1 Open Journal Systems (OJS)

Jurnal MSA uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) as its electronic editorial management and publishing platform.

Published articles are organized within the journal's online archive, which includes information on volumes, issues, article titles, authors, abstracts, keywords, publication files, and other relevant metadata.

The journal's published issues can be accessed through:

https://journal.uin-alauddin.ac.id/index.php/msa/issue/archive

3.2 Distributed Digital Preservation

Jurnal MSA supports the use of distributed digital preservation technologies and services, including:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): A distributed digital preservation system that enables participating institutions to maintain copies of scholarly content for preservation and access recovery.

  • CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): A community-governed digital preservation service that maintains distributed archival copies and provides access under its established preservation and release policies.

  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN): A digital preservation network developed by the Public Knowledge Project to support the long-term preservation of scholarly content published through OJS.

The use of these services depends on technical eligibility, activation, institutional authorization, and the applicable service requirements.

Jurnal MSA will identify itself as a participant in a specific preservation network only after its participation and archiving status have been verified.

Jurnal MSA is committed to preserving the integrity and authenticity of its published scholarly records.

Any changes to published articles must comply with the journal's applicable correction, retraction, and publication update policies.

Corrections to published works must not be made in a manner that conceals or removes important information concerning their publication history.

When corrections, retraction notices, or other editorial statements are required, they must be managed transparently and remain traceable in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.

6. Data Backup and Recovery

Jurnal MSA supports the implementation of regular data backup procedures as an essential component of information protection and the continuity of scholarly publishing services.

System backups should cover:

  1. The OJS database.

  2. Article files and published documents.

  3. Journal and article metadata.

  4. System configuration files required for restoration.

  5. Administrative and editorial records, subject to applicable information security policies.

Backup management, secure storage of backup copies, and recovery testing are conducted in coordination with the technical administrator or the institutional unit responsible for information technology infrastructure.

Backup frequency and recovery procedures are determined in accordance with the system operator's established operational policies.

7. Metadata Preservation and Publication Identification

Jurnal MSA seeks to maintain the completeness, consistency, and traceability of scholarly metadata for every published article.

Publication metadata includes article titles, authors, institutional affiliations, abstracts, keywords, volume and issue information, publication years, page ranges or article identifiers, and persistent identifiers such as DOIs where available.

Metadata management supports information retrieval, scholarly indexing, citation, system interoperability, and the long-term identification of published works.

Jurnal MSA also encourages the adoption of metadata standards compatible with its OJS infrastructure and the indexing services used by the journal.

8. Open Access and Self-Archiving

Jurnal MSA supports open access to published scholarly articles.

Readers may access scientific content through the journal's official website in accordance with the copyright provisions and publication licenses applicable to individual articles.

Authors may deposit and distribute permitted versions of their articles through institutional repositories, scholarly repositories, or other academic platforms, provided that such distribution complies with the journal's copyright, licensing, and self-archiving policies.

Redistributed articles must include appropriate attribution and acknowledge Jurnal MSA as the original publication venue.

9. Information Security and Confidentiality

Electronic archive management is conducted in accordance with principles of information security, personal data protection, and editorial confidentiality.

Access to submitted manuscripts, protected reviewer identities, editorial correspondence, and other internal records is restricted according to authorized user roles and permissions within the system.

Information not intended for public disclosure must not be distributed without appropriate authorization or a valid legal basis.

Publicly accessible scholarly archives must be distinguished from confidential editorial records maintained within the publishing system.

10. Long-Term Access and Publication Recovery

Jurnal MSA is committed to maintaining access to published scholarly articles in the event of changes in journal management, platform upgrades, system migration, or service disruptions.

To support this commitment, the journal seeks to:

  1. Maintain published article archives within the journal's publishing platform.

The electronic archiving and digital preservation policy is subject to periodic review, taking into account developments in digital preservation technologies, information security requirements, scholarly publishing standards, and institutional infrastructure capabilities.

Policy revisions and improvements are implemented through decisions made by the journal's management in coordination with the relevant technical authorities.

Jurnal MSA may establish preservation partnerships with institutional repositories or recognized digital preservation services, subject to the fulfillment of applicable technical and administrative requirements.
