Manuscript Types

Jurnal MSA (Matematika dan Statistika serta Aplikasinya)

1. General Policy

Jurnal MSA publishes scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of mathematics, statistics, and their applications through original theoretical investigations, methodological innovations, computational studies, and empirical research.

The journal prioritizes manuscripts that demonstrate scientific originality, methodological rigor, analytical depth, reproducibility or verifiability, and meaningful contributions to mathematical and statistical knowledge.

Submitted manuscripts must be consistent with the journal's Objectives and Scope, Author Guidelines, Authorship Criteria, Publication Ethics, and other applicable editorial policies.

The journal primarily considers Original Research Articles, including theoretical, methodological, computational, simulation-based, and empirical studies.

Other manuscript types may be considered at the discretion of the Editorial Board, subject to the journal's current editorial priorities and publication policies.

2. Original Research Articles

Primary Manuscript Type

The application of standard methods must be accompanied by a clearly justified research problem, appropriate analytical evaluation, and a meaningful scientific contribution.

2.5 Statistical Machine Learning and Data Mining Research Articles

This category includes original research on statistical learning, predictive modeling, computational statistics, and knowledge discovery from data.

Relevant studies may include:

  • Development or improvement of machine learning algorithms.

Manuscripts must demonstrate methodological or substantive analytical contributions beyond routine software implementation or the application of established algorithms.

Appropriate validation, comparison, interpretation, and discussion of limitations are expected.

3. Narrative Review Articles

Special Consideration — Subject to Editorial Approval

Narrative Review Articles provide critical, interpretative, and conceptually organized discussions of established or emerging developments in mathematics, statistics, and their applications.

A narrative review should demonstrate scholarly synthesis, critical evaluation, and meaningful interpretation rather than merely summarize previously published studies.

Potential contributions may include:

  • Critical examination of developments in mathematical or statistical theory.

  • Conceptual synthesis of competing methodological approaches.

  • Identification of unresolved theoretical or methodological challenges.

  • Evaluation of emerging computational or analytical paradigms.

  • Formulation of research directions based on a critical examination of existing knowledge.

Narrative reviews are distinct from Systematic Literature Reviews and must not be presented as systematic reviews under another designation.

Submission of Narrative Review Articles is subject to the Editorial Board's assessment of suitability and current publication priorities.

Authors are encouraged to contact the Editorial Board before submitting manuscripts in this category.

4. Perspective Articles

Special Consideration — Subject to Editorial Approval

Perspective Articles present scholarly viewpoints, critical arguments, or forward-looking interpretations concerning significant developments and challenges in mathematics, statistics, or related computational disciplines.

Perspective Articles may address:

  • Emerging theoretical or methodological challenges.

  • Future directions in mathematical and statistical research.

  • Critical evaluation of established scientific paradigms.

  • New conceptual frameworks or research perspectives.

  • Methodological challenges in statistical machine learning and data science.

  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary applications of mathematics and statistics.

Perspective Articles must demonstrate analytical depth, scientific justification, conceptual originality, and relevance to the journal's scope.

Personal opinions without sufficient scientific reasoning, supporting evidence, or scholarly references are not considered suitable.

Acceptance of Perspective Articles is subject to editorial discretion and does not imply a general commitment to publish this manuscript category.

5. Manuscript Types Not Accepted

5.1 Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs)

Not Accepted — Effective January 1, 2026

In accordance with the editorial policy of Jurnal MSA, manuscripts classified as Systematic Literature Reviews are no longer accepted for submission, effective January 1, 2026.

This policy reflects the journal's emphasis on original theoretical research, primary empirical investigations, computational studies, and methodological innovations.

Manuscripts identified as Systematic Literature Reviews submitted on or after the effective date are subject to desk rejection without external peer review.

The policy also applies to manuscripts presented under alternative titles when their principal purpose and methodology correspond to a systematic literature review.

The journal's previously announced transition period required manuscripts already under consideration in this category to receive formal acceptance before December 31, 2025.

5.2 Other Ineligible Manuscripts

The following manuscripts are generally not considered suitable for publication:

  1. Manuscripts outside the journal's scientific scope.

  2. Previously published articles or manuscripts under simultaneous consideration elsewhere.

  3. Studies lacking a clearly identifiable scientific contribution.

  4. Descriptive reports without sufficient mathematical or statistical analysis.

  5. Routine applications of software or algorithms without appropriate analytical evaluation.

  6. Manuscripts containing substantial methodological deficiencies or unsupported conclusions.

  7. Works that fail to comply with the journal's publication ethics and originality requirements.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to determine manuscript suitability during initial editorial screening.

6. General Manuscript Requirements

Regardless of manuscript category, submissions must comply with the following requirements.

6.1 Originality and Scientific Contribution

Manuscripts must present original scholarly contributions and clearly explain the significance of their findings, methodology, or theoretical developments.

6.2 Methodological Rigor

Mathematical derivations, statistical analyses, computational experiments, and empirical investigations must be scientifically justified and appropriately documented.
