Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with an increasing number of sufferers every year. Based on the results of the 2018 Basic Health Research, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia has increased in people aged >15 years. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the factors that influence a person to suffer from diabetes mellitus. Understanding the factors that influence the occurrence of diabetes mellitus can serve as a reference for reducing the risk of diabetes mellitus. In this study, a binary logistic regression model was used to examine the factors that influence a person to develop diabetes mellitus by collecting data from 42 patients, both those with and without diabetes mellitus, in the work area of the Integrated Health Center (POSBINDU) Bone Tua, Masamba District, North Luwu Regency in 2022. The binary logistic regression model is a regression model that can examine the relationship between independent variables and dependent variables in the form of dichotomy (binary). This study used seven independent variables, namely gender, age, highest level of education, knowledge of diabetes mellitus, family history of diabetes mellitus, diet, and physical activity, and one dependent variable, namely diabetes mellitus. The results of the study show that of the seven independent variables, only four variables have an effect on a person's diabetes mellitus, namely family history of diabetes mellitus, knowledge of diabetes mellitus, diet, and physical activity. The variable of family history of diabetes mellitus is a variable that has a very significant effect on the risk factors that cause a person to suffer from diabetes mellitus.
