Abstract

The Human Development Index (HDI) and the Gender Development Index (GDI) are important indicators for describing the development conditions in a region. This study examines the relationship between various socioeconomic indicators and the HDI and GDI in regencies/cities in East Java Province. The data used comes from the official publication of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of East Java Province in 2024. The socioeconomic variables studied include Population Density, Open Unemployment Rate (TPT), Percentage of Poor Population (PPM), Average Years of Schooling (RLS), and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). This analysis was conducted using a multivariate regression approach to see how changes in socioeconomic indicators are related to the HDI and GDI together. The results show that Average Years of Schooling has a fairly strong influence on the HDI and GDI in most regions. In addition, GRDP tends to be related to an increase in the HDI, while the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) is related to variations in GDI values between regions. The relationship between the HDI and the GDI also shows a positive trend, indicating that improvements in human development are generally accompanied by improvements in gender development. Overall, the model provides an adequate picture of the relationship between socioeconomic conditions and the HDI and GDI in East Java Province.
